LASG COMMISERATES WITH OKE-AFA BOMB BLAST VICTIMS
The Governor of Lagos State Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola {SAN} and the entire people of the state have once again commiserated with the families of the victims Ikeja Military Cantonment Bomb Blast which sad event occured on Sunday, 27th January, 2002.
The Governor while delivering his key note address at the 8th year anniversary in memory of the victims prayed that the Almighty God will continue to protect and assist the families and relatives of the victims in all their endeavours in life.
According to Governor Fashola who was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Tola Kasali “eight years ago, we experienced a most unfortunate and devastating incident in our State that really traumatized our collective psyche. Today we are here to remember the victims of the incident, their families, the individuals who were displaced and children who have suddenly become orphans’’.
Governor Fashola stated further, “Individually and collectively, we cannot close our eyes to the plight of the displaced individuals and the orphans as a result of the blast. The blast from such catastrophes take time to heal,” he stressed.
Said he: “as a government, we have deemed it fit to put their plights in our consciousness and do what is necessary. We also need to put in place necessary measures to prevent a re-occurrence”.
However, the Governor informed that due to his concern and the proactiveness of the present administration that led the establishment of the Lagos Emergency Management agency (LASEMA) in February 2007 to coordinate all relevant stakeholders in disaster management.
